Females
Breeders are scored for 12 traits (see selection). Females not in calf at two years of age are culled. They must give birth unassisted and raise a good weaner on grass. Cows, show cows included, are also culled for sub fertility, doing ability, bad udders and poor performance.
A cow’s performance score is based on her calf. Each year she either gains or loses points. If her calf is a sale bull or a replacement heifer she gains a point – if it is a cull heifer or made a steer she loses a point.
